2019 plans

The Surfing Waffle webcomic is currently being scripted and I've been doing some thumbnails to try and figure out how things would look. It will be a long time coming for the webcomic will be ready to view, but the plan is to not post any pages until I have at least enough for a typical single comic book.

I am also currently putting together an "issue zero" and it will consist of the following;

- The original Surfing Waffle comic that first appeared on 16Debut www.16debut.com/ in 2013. It will be heavily edited, and will include at least eight more pages than what was originally available on the webcomic anthology. This will all lead into the beginning of the new Surfing Waffle comic.
- The Latest Dream Raid, which debuted on Forty Winks (now offline) back in 2015, will also be included. It will be retouched here and there, nothing nearly as drastic as with the Surfing Waffle.
- Some of the little TL : DR comics that first appeared on Storm-Artists will be added.
- A retrospective on the origins of the various characters who have appeared in the comics, as well as several pages of related artwork.
- Various other little things, including a page of new Mailboxmen for you to play with.
- The Trap, the original story available in Manga Ganda issue four, will not be included with issue zero.

The goal for issue zero is to be sold, either digitally or physically, and does not have a completion date.

Originally, I had plans for a "Comics Cavalcade" was to include multiple origin stories for various characters of mine, and as much as I want to stick with that plan I can't promise anything at the moment. I'll worry about silly little things like selling the books after all is said and done.

I have no idea when I will be able to finish the storyline on the Iridescent Ersatz YouTube channel or when the story of Brooklyn Davenport will reach its inevitable conclusion. I also have no idea what will happen with Emberedge, or any other half-finished concept I've posted online over the years. It will be much better for me to work on one super-project at a time, as much as my natural impulse is to try to be everything at once.
(Well, this isn't my whole plan for 2019, this is just the biggest thing I want to do art-wise.)

(Sometimes my best ideas are the ones I doodled years ago.)

HAL-CON 2018 REPORT

PROS;
  • My Cuphead cosplay was almost universally praised, which is funny considering how shoddy it was put together.
  • I got David Yost’s autograph and I did see LeVar Burton sitting next to him. Mr. Yost signed my DVD copy of the first Power Rangers movies and even gave me a theory as to why Maligore was on the cover and not Ivan Ooze.
  • Saw some old familiar faces.
  • Saw a bunch of people I follow on Instagram.
  • That ranting Dalek
  • I had the single best piece of octopus I’ve ever eaten in my life.
  • I got to show a bunch of people, including a former instructor from college, my contribution to Manga Ganda # 4.
  • The city lights at night.
  • Remarkably, none of my swag got water damage from the rain!

CONS;
  • Only being able to go the one day.
  • The cold weather.
  • The sudden rain storm.
  • Not getting back to the con in time to attend LeVar Burton’s question and answer session or get a picture with myself and David Yost and his two Morphers.
  • Missed a bunch of old familiar faces.
  • My Cuphead ‘hat’ soaked up a lot of sweat...
  • Salmon skin sushi is severely overrated.
  • They found a way to crowd the vendor’s floor so much that I actually missed some rows.
  • For all the hype (and taxpayer dollars) behind the new convention centre, I found the overall decor rather vanilla.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad to have gone, and the new convention centre was great for picture taking, but it was just such a pain to get around in.

I am not actively planning to attend Hal-Con next year, for no other reason than finances. This convention centre hasn’t swayed my decision.

Digitally drawn robot dude

The title of this blog post is pretty self-explanatory. I'd post a deviantArt link to the larger version, but this really isn't the type of art piece that would require it, at least in my opinion.

How I celebrated my YouTube account's 10th anniversary.

It's a meme thing called a hexafusion, where you take three characters and draw what they would look like fused together. So to celebrate the tenth anniversary of my YouTube channel's start, I chose three characters that are relatively forgotten about have a special significance to the channel; Anti-Waffle, Sonny Octopus, and the King of Clams.

Here is the larger version of this cluster. Have fun with the nightmare fuel in the middle.

And while we're at it, here's the celebration of the less amusing tenth anniversary of my deviantArt's account.

Clown Cuties

Earlier in the year I drew some bookmarks for the local Fire Hall Auxiliary to use at a carnival event, so I went with the clown motif, resurrecting my clown heroine Claudia and giving her some friends to play with; Anya the juggler, Kana the diver and Zephyr the animal trainer.

You can see a larger version of this image here.

Well, I Watched Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...

I said that when the new TMNT series would be debut, I would give it a chance. Despite my apprehension going into this new series, I decided I would watch this show with an open mind. As of this writing, it has not 'officially' debuted on television, but the first episode is available for all on Nickelodeon's YouTube channel.  And after having watched the episode for this review, I can safely say, without a shadow of a doubt, without hyperbole, I will not be watching this new series.

Now granted, we're only one episode in, and that's not enough to judge the entirety of an animated series that has not even aired yet, but if Mystic Mayhem is an indicator of how this series will evolve, then there is not much for someone who's been on the Ninja Turtle train pretty much as long as I've been alive to keep watching. Who knows, I could be proven wrong. When I first watched Steven Universe, I thought it was the stupidest thing ever. Nowadays, I scour the television guides days in advance in order to fill up my PVR to record the newest episodes as soon as possible. A year from now, we could all be saying that Rise of the TMNT is the greatest incarnation ever.

Sufficed to say, I have my doubts.

Characters I'd like to see in Smash Bros for the Switch

I have to give myself credit, no one's ever done something so creative like this before, lololol. No one's ever posted a list of their top hopes for Smash Bros characters. Don't even bother searching it on YouTube. Heh. (Yeah I'm bad at intros.)

Okay, seriously though, at the time of this writing, we have gotten nothing more than a single teaser trailer for the Smash Bros Switch game, and all we know for sure is that we're getting the Inklings as playable characters, and Link is getting a Breath of the Wild makeover (whether it's a costume or not, we'll see). And we're getting this game in 2018 probably.

What I'd like to see from a Smash Bros Switch Port

*This list was made before the Smash Bros teaser played at the end of the recent Nintendo Direct*

You know it's coming. I know it's coming. We all know Smash Bros 4 is coming to the Switch. It's just a matter of when. And once the Nintendo Switch port of Super Smash Bros 4 is announced, it'll mean one less reason for me to get a Wii U. Pokken Tournament, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, etc, etc. And those games will have extra bells and whistles. Considering that Smash Bros 4 had the two versions, the Wii U one and the 3DS one, we have to assume that the Switch port will all manner of extra content.

Here's what I personally would like to see;

1, All DLC content - That means every character, every stage from both Smash game versions and every Mii costume must be available on disc from the get-go. Considering that Pokken on the Switch had five extra characters than the Wii U version, and will be getting additional characters, I think it's reasonable to assume that we'll get the DLC content from both editions of Smash. And the music and trophies too.

2, Smash Run HD - The 3DS version was relatively lacking in features compared to the Wii U version, but I think we'd all want Smash Run over Smash Tour. Oh, and a secondary mode where you can play Smash Run for more than five minutes.

3, When it comes to customizable moves, I only want one thing; when I collect the move, I don't want to see it pop up in my rewards screen again.

4, When it comes to the Mii Fighters, how about we get some costumes from Miitomo? Who wouldn't want to play as a winged Tyrannosaurus with Christmas socks on?

5, I don't think we necessarily need any new characters, but if we do, let's keep it simple. I say the Ice Climbers are my top pick. They were sorely missed in Smash 4, and since they aren't trying to make characters function on two different systems, there's no reason to not include Popo and Nana.

Also, why not add Squirtle and Ivysaur? And Wolf. And Pichu-geez I never thought I'd hear myself saying that. Maybe we could have Young Link as an alternate costume for Toon Link. As for characters from new franchises...I say save them for Smash 5.

6, Add more trophies for each franchise - It's never made any sense to me that Animal Crossing got a bajillion trophies while Yoshi's series for instance got a handful.

7, Remove useless things like "Global Smash Power" and Street Smash.

Like I said in #5, I honestly don't feel like Smash Bros for the Switch needs new characters. We have so many great fighters in the roster as it is, there's not much room for improvement.

The first post of 2018-

-and definitely not the last.

Nothing major this time, I just thought people might appreciate seeing this recent Instagram post of mine; a piece of the Berlin Wall. Literally a piece of history.
